A 2020 collection of work by poet Alyson Hallett. True to the form of this wonderful writer, Tilted Ground takes the reader on a kaleidoscopic journey through rocks, cutlery, fossils and the human psyche. It was written after Alyson spent five days as poet in residence at the Lyell Centre for Earth and Marine Science & Technology at Herriot-Watt University in Glasgow.
Penelope Shuttle says this of Tilted Ground:
These are love letters to stone, rock, the earth. The language glitters and refracts. The power of the author’s connection to the elemental is everywhere: grounded, energised, fully of with, full of deep comprehension of the everyday…Yet the world is also studies, scrutinised with deep awareness and love, so the reader feels richly-engaged with bedrock experience.
The entire assemblage of poems is flexible yet grounded, powered by a stringent passion for stone and for the world and our life experience on the planet.
