Francesca Owen

Francesca Owen makes work using earth pigments, investigating their uses, collecting and gathering them from specific places and sharing this knowledge to groups and individuals alike.

Francesca studied fine art painting at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art winning two scholarships. Learning the disciplines of this practice, along with the histories and theories that encompass conceptual art, Francesca graduated and went on to exhibit, sell work and to complete a residency in Laos, Asia. The residency prompted an investigation into the use of botanical dyes and earth pigments. This research coincided with an MA in Art & Environment at Falmouth University, Cornwall, and another two award winning programmes, carrying out research at Newlyn Art Gallery, Duchy College, Trebah Garden and Kew Gardens in London. During this time she lived simply on a 30ft wooden sailing boat collecting water and wood for fuel.

Francesca exhibits around the South West of the U.K and has recently shown at Greenhill Arts, Dartmoor, having had her work chosen by the arts editor with a three-page article in Devon Life magazine.
